Horticultural Charcoal

Our Horticultural Charcoal is a finely ground, carbon-rich soil amendment designed to become part of a healthier soil system.

Whether you're working with raised beds, vegetable gardens, flower beds, containers, or established plants, charcoal can help create a soil environment that holds onto moisture and nutrients while providing a long-lasting source of stable carbon.

Give your soil a foundation that keeps working long after application.

What Is Horticultural Charcoal?

Inspired by Terra Preta

Long before modern soil amendments, Indigenous communities in the Amazon created remarkably dark, fertile soils now known as Terra Preta, or "dark earth."

These soils contain significant amounts of charcoal alongside organic matter and other materials. Their discovery helped demonstrate something remarkable about charcoal: when incorporated into the right soil system, stable carbon can remain in the soil for generations.

Today, gardeners and growers are exploring similar principles by incorporating biochar and charcoal into their soil-management practices.

The goal isn't simply to add charcoal. It's to build a better soil system.

Why Add Charcoal to Your Soil?

💧 Moisture Management

Charcoal can help soils retain water, making moisture available within the soil environment for longer periods.

🌱 Nutrient Retention

Its porous structure can interact with nutrients and help retain them within the soil rather than allowing them to move away as quickly.

🦠 Soil Biology

The pore structure of biochar can provide habitat and surfaces for beneficial microorganisms within the soil system.

🌎 Long-Lasting Carbon

Unlike organic materials that rapidly decompose, charcoal is relatively stable and can remain in soil for years.

🌿 Soil Structure

Used as part of an overall soil-management program, charcoal can contribute to a healthier soil environment.

CHARCOAL → SOIL → MOISTURE + NUTRIENTS + BIOLOGY → HEALTHIER SOIL SYSTEM

It's not about feeding the plant. It's about building the environment around the plant.

Where Can I Use It?

🌱 Vegetable Gardens

Incorporate into garden soil before planting.

🌸 Flower Beds

Add charcoal as part of your overall soil-amendment program.

🥕 Raised Beds

Mix thoroughly throughout the growing medium.

🌳 Trees & Shrubs

Use appropriately within the surrounding soil rather than concentrating amendments directly against the roots.

🪴 Containers & Potting Mixes

Use as part of a balanced growing medium.

🌿 Greenhouses

Incorporate into beds and growing media where appropriate.

Why 7C's?

We believe good products should have a purpose.

At 7C's Farm, we're interested in practical solutions that make sense for real farms, gardens, animals, and families. Our horticultural charcoal is produced with the goal of giving growers a useful, easy-to-apply carbon amendment they can incorporate into their own soil-management practices.

We're not interested in complicated products with complicated instructions.

Just good products, useful information, and a little bit of farm knowledge behind them.
